The V St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum will gather more than 750 foreign participants, including prominent artists, cultural aficionados, scientists and renowned experts. We should tell more about a few of the guests.
American pianist Daniel Pollack will become the ambassador of the Cultural Forum. Pollack has been connected with Russia and Russian culture for a long time – at least since his victory at the I Tchaikovsky International Contest in Moscow in 1958. Later the pianist toured around the USSR and Russia. Musician and member of juries of international contests will participate in discussions about the popularization of academic music. After the official program, on December will give a solo-concert in the Mariinsky theatre.
British actor and director Ralph Fiennes is famous to the world for the role of Voldemort in the Harry Potter saga. Besides that, the actor has played numerous theatre and movie roles. He was nominated for an “Oscar” for his role in “Schindler’s List” of Stephen Spielberg and also played Evgeny Onegin in the English screen version of 1999. At the Forum Fiennes will tell about how Russian art and cinema has influenced his work. He will also present projects of the Kino Klassika fund, which promotes Soviet and Russian cinema in foreign states. The actor will visit the “Lenfilm” studio and will participate in the “Russian Cinema as Viewed by Foreigners” discussion.
We should note that Fiennes is planning to star in a movie about the famous dancer Rudolph Nureev. That’s why he regularly comes to the Academy of Russian ballet to consult with Nikolai Tsiskaridze and to select future stars for the film. Perhaps, some of the decisions will be made at the Cultural Forum.
Gabriel Prokofiev – composer and DJ, grandson of the great Sergey Prokofiev. The musician is a citizen of Great Britain. At the Cultural Forum he will take part in the Non-Classic section of the “Prokofiev. 21st century” symposium. Gabriel will tell about how classical musical tradition interacts with contemporary electronic music and will hold a workshop on electric acoustics. Participants of the Professional event flow will have an opportunity to hear Prokofiev’s performance at the Non-Classic Night electronic party.
Besides that, the leading specialist on Russian music of the previous century, professor of Princeton University Simon Morrison will deliver a speech at the Symposium, dedicated to S. Prokofiev. General secretary of FIPRESCI Klaus Eder will attend the Forum in honor of the 70th anniversary of the organization of film-critics and will present the legendary “Kairat” film together with its director Darezhan Omirbaev. French composer, author of soundtracks to Luc Besson’s films Eric Serra will take part in the discussion about film music. Famous juggler and mime from France Gerome Toma will participate in the “Circus and Street Theatre” section.
Many other foreign participants of the Forum will also contribute to the development of international cooperation and mutual understanding, will stimulate cultural exchange and will determine the prospects of cultural development of Russia for many years to come.
