Today, on December 1, the plenary session of the Forum will take place, the “Prokofiev. 21st century” international symposium will open today, and the “Patron of the Year” award ceremony will take place today. The first events, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CIS, the Year of Cinema in Russian and other important cultural issues of the year are about to start.
The central venue of the Forum in the General Staff building of the State Hermitage museum will host the Plenary session of the V St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum (starts at 16:30), dedicated to the topic of the preservation of cultural heritage, the “Prokofiev. 21st century” will start at 10:00. Gabriel Prokofiev,the son of the great composer, will participate as the special guest. The “Role of Printed Media as a Bridge Between State and Culture” discussion will start at 14:30 and a large intellectual marathon, which will deal with the issue of global and national in contemporary culture.
In the halls of the General Staff building, which are currently the venue of the “Jan Fabre: Knight of Despair – Warrior of Beauty” exhibition, which is part of the “Under the Auspices of the Forum” program, experts and state officials will also discuss the approach to the issue of preserving cultural heritage as a priority project of the state, and experts of the “Literature and Reading” section will explore ways of developing the reading culture. Also the “Commonwealth of Cultures – Commonwealth of Nations” round table (starts at 14:00) will be dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Speakers from Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Estonia will discuss prospects of developing cultural ties within the CIS space will.
An important event of the “Tourism” section will start at 11.00 in the “Moscow” hotel. The head of the Program office of the Council of Europe in the Russian Federation Petr Zikh, representative of the Ministry of Tourism of France Atout France Inessa Korotkova and other experts will participate in the “Increasing competitiveness of Russian regions on the Russian and international tourist markets” plenary session of the Coordination committee on tourism. The event will be moderated by the deputy minister of culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova and the head of the “Tourism” section Maya Lomidze.
A vast program of events will take place at the Business venue of the Forum in the Russian Museum of Ethnography. Here on December 1 a number of important agreements will be signed: agreement on the creation of the Russian-Chinese association of universities of culture and arts, memorandum on cooperation within the Saint Petersburg International Handicraft Congress 2016 between Russia, Czech Republic, China, Kazakhstan and other countries. The Russian Museum will also conclude a series of documents with future partners.
Apart from that, experts in the fields of culture and business will gather at panel discussions, dedicated to issues of corporate social responsibility and the translation of the new cultural image of Russia through modern arts. The latter will be moderated by the People’s Artist of Russia Igor Butman. Finally, the “Patron of the Year” award ceremony (starts at 19:30) will become the key event of the Business program on December 1.
The “Russian cinema as viewed by foreigners” conference at the “Lenfilm” studio will become a bright event of the first day of the Forum. The event will be opened by the British actor Ralph Fiennes and the head of the “Cinema” section Fedor Bondarchuk (starts at 12:00). In the first part of the conference experts will discuss the position of Russian cinema in the global in the global industry, and the second part will be dedicated to the way foreign experts and critics view Soviet and Russian cinema.
Besides that, today participants of the Forum will have a chance to attend the events of the International Handicraft Congress in the Peter and Paul fortress, “Juggling as a medicine” master-class of Vyacheslav Polunin in “Uppsala-circus”, a concert program, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CIS in the State Academic Capella of Saint Petersburg, the opening of the “John and Yoko: A New York Love Story” exhibition of American photographer Allan Tannenbaum, a premiere of the “Alice in Wonderland” family musical (based on L. Carroll’s tales) and many other.
