OPEN LOOK launches with a dancewalk on 29 June

On 29 June the XIX International Dance Festival OPEN LOOK in St. Petersburg will start with a promenade dancing performance through bridges, parks and embankments. The St. Petersburg Dancewalk with the company Neopost Foofwa (Switzerland) and the educational project SOTA (Moscow) will start at the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre and go through the Anichkov Bridge, Golitsyn loft, Fontanka Embankment, through the Summer Garden, Trinity Bridge, Alexander Garden with the finish line at the Baltic House Festival Theatre.

Petersburg is going to become a stage set for OPEN LOOK itself. This year the Festival will reveal not only the new European and Russian choreographers and dancers, but also offer the integration forms into the theatrical and urban space. An exclusive specialty of the Festival-2017 is the new type of special bar performances.

What is going to happen during the dance performance of 29 June - the Swiss choreographer Foofwa D’Imobilitе, the author of the conception, is keeping under wraps. More than 30 dancers will start the city walking performance accompanied with a music band with fifes, drums and electro hurdy-gurdies. Those who are interested will be able to join them in Summer Garden at 4 p.m.

Foofwa says: "Dancewalk is going to become a challenge for normal dancing aesthetics because of its unusual kinesthetic, choreography and space spread. This performance establishes the new relations of dance to time and space. The dance is changing under the influence of the environment, dancewalk interprets and mellows the unpredictabilty of life".

Vadim Kasparov, the festival director chimes in: "We`ve got used that dances are usually being performed on stage, even if in open space. However now we are dealing with the hours of dancing in the most unexpectable places. The audience are not only observing, but also are getting involved into this action and may even find themselves in the middle of dancing. I`d love them to dance with an "open look".

Neopost Foowa Company has created eleven different dancewalk-routes for fifteen years and they always adapt the conception to a specific place. This performance took place in Capetown and Soweto (South Africa), in Switzerland and near the Opéra de Paris. The Petersburg performance was created by Foofwa D’Imobilitе in cooperation with the Moscow choreograper Dina Hussein. The project is being organized with the support of the Swiss Council for Culture Pro Helvetia.
